Ethiopia Mensur Aba Hika - Standout Coffee (Stockholm, Sweden)

The washed process is still relatively new in Jimma. Historically, this region was known for lower-grade naturals, but that reputation shifted after 2009 when producers started investing in washing stations. Mensur Aba Hika's lot shows what happens when infrastructure meets intention.

This is JARC 74110—a specific Ethiopian varietal identified by researchers in 1974 from a mother tree in Bishari village. It's been propagated across Ethiopia for its high yield and disease resistance, but in Mensur's hands at 2000 meters, it produces something notable: white floral aromatics layered over rich caramel sweetness, banana bread, blueberry, and a long oolong tea finish. This is single-producer traceability in action.

Founded by Alexander Ruas and Oskar Garberg—both Swedish Barista Champions—Standout Coffee started in 2021 with a simple mission: source and roast the most interesting coffees they can find.

What makes them stand out? They won Best Nordic Roaster 2024 for a reason. Standout works directly with producers on innovative processing methods—we're talking anaerobic fermentations, experimental techniques, and competition-grade micro-lots. Their coffees are the kind that win brewers cups and spark conversations.

Roasted on Jan 27, 2026.
